Your Dictionary Definition of Penumbra
Something related to, connected to, and implied by, the existence of something else that is necessary for the second thing to be full and complete in its essential aspects.
Dictionary Definition of Penumbra
Painting the point or one area in which light and shade blend.
Wordnik Definition of Penumbra
The part of a picture where the shade imperceptibly blends with the light.
And to me, these describe the exquisite form of poetry known as Haiku.
I shall attempt to blend light with shadow ….. connections and implications ….. existence and completeness ….. words and feelings ….. love and patience ….. choice and chance ….. rules and chaos …..
Read and write with me …..
Poetry surrounds us everywhere, but putting it on paper is, alas, not so easy as looking at it.

I have included on a new page on blog called “20 Worthy Blogs”. The inspiration to create this page came from being nominated for two different award (challenges), which of course require me to nominate other bloggers. I am one of those that feels uneasy nominating people in large part because I don’t want them to feel obligated or unpleasant because they have to turn the challenge down. Another reason is many of the people I would like to nominate have blogs in which the challenge would not blend well with the intent and/or content of the blog.
Any someone whose is listed on this page, you can considered yourself nominated or not nominated depending on your preference.. You could also just use 1 fact about yourself (from The Versatile Blogger or one (or more) of the 11 questions listed (from the Sunshine Blogger Award) as a prompt or inspiration for a post (with no need to link back to this post or mention the award).

I agree that the hardest part of writing is putting it on paper, however, my first impressions are that you are doing it masterfully. I look forward to reading and learning more. Peace, Harlon

‘Penumbra’ is also a Romanian word (from Latin), one that we use quite often in Romanian (‘umbra’ means shadow). I didn’t know it is also an English word, with the same meaning. Haven’t seen it used before in English. Thanks for visiting my blog. 🙂

As someone who recently wrote two haiku as part of a blogging/photo challenge, I am in awe of your exquisite poetry. I heard a poet once describe her craft as, “poetry is creating art the size of a postage stamp, ” and your poetry is the size of a diamond ring, and just as gorgeous.

Thank you for such kind words and I feel very humbled! I like to think of haiku as a ’17 word novel that I would want to read, cover to cover’! 🙂

Always enjoy your haiku. I never heard that van gogh quote and excited you shared it as I, as well as millions, I believe, are enthralled with his art work and his words.
